Take Cover: Borris Miles Again Aims At Legislature

Take cover! Borris Miles wants to be in the Texas House, again. The former, one-term Houston Democratic lawmaker is seeking to unseat State Rep. Al Edwards in the primary. The same Al Edwards who Miles beat in 2006, and was then beaten by in 2008. Let’s hope Mr. Miles leaves his weapons at home.

You might not remember much about Mr. Miles’ legislative record (bad), but his public antics sure got him some attention (worse).

Miles shot a man who was allegedly stealing copper wire from a home construction site — making the Democrat the first Texan to utilize the “castle” law he loudly voted against. That law gives you the right to protect your home.

A few months later, Miles was indicted on charges of deadly conduct after allegedly waving a gun at a party he wasn’t invited to. He also, allegedly, kissed rather rudely the wife of another man and was accused of being generally rather thuggish.

Miles was acquitted of the charges in January 2009.

During the most recent Session, Mr. Edwards was the third-highest scoring lawmaker on the Fiscal Responsibility Index.

On the other hand, Edwards achieved national notoriety back in 2005 by taking on “sexy cheerleading” — something that garnered the attention of The Daily Show.
