Taxes And Fees In Transportation

We knew it was coming. The John Carona tax beast, SB855, is now getting heard in the Texas House, thanks to Rep. Vicki Truitt. That'll happen tomorrow. Every conservative taxpayer group has taken a stand against these bills.

Besides raising taxes and fees, they do nothing to address diversions, improve transparency or accountability. They just spend money.

Chairing the committee is Joe Pickett (D-El Paso) and the vice chair is Larry Phillips (R-Sherman).

Hopefully they will have the good sense to stop this pork-inflated scheme. This is really bad public policy that runs completely contrary to last week's Tea Parties.

HB9 and SB855 need to be stopped.

Taxes Based On Income?!

For what it's worth, the legislative package adopted by the Senate includes language applying these taxes and fees based on income. The Texas Public Policy Foundation has a great piece looking at this issue today. These aren’t income taxes, just taxes based on income... Right.
