Didn't the election cycle just end? Yes, but everyone's chattering about U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison's exploratory filings for the governorship in 2010, challenging incumbent governor Rick Perry. Expect the race to help shape and color the 2009 legislative session -- that period of policy-making the interrupts campaigns.
Both Hutchison and Perry seem at this moment to be intent on making the race about policies -- specifically tax and spending issues.
They both have political houses with a fair amount of glass. Hutchison voted for the $700 billion bail-out. Perry championed the new business tax.
Some of this will shape the legislative session, as partisans for each attempt to lay claim to strong reform and taxpayer protections.
And that, my friends, is why I am excitedly toasting the start of the '10 campaign season!

Kay Bailey is a very nice
Kay Bailey is a very nice woman, but she is not a conservative. She's not a liberal, but she's not a conservative. What's one good taxpayer initiative she's challenged? She has defended the earmark process, and she voted for the bail-out. Enough said. Rick may not be great, but he is better than Kay by a long shot.
KBH solid fiscal conservative
While there are many, many tax cuts Senator Hutchison has championed over the years on behalf of Texans, people should take particular note of one of the biggest pro-family tax provision ever passed by Congress: marriage penalty relief. Senator Hutchison made that happen. Yes, many Senators and Representatives supported it, but when it came time to seal the final deal, all were ready to throw marriage penalty relief overboard for other pet projects. Senator Hutchison dug in her heels and insisted that it stay in the final bill.
KBH a Fiscal Conservative?
If you follow KBH's voting record in the U. S. Senate, you will find that she has not been a fiscal conservative at all. Unfortunately, she has hardly been noticed in the Senate.
Rick Perry has demonstrated the leadership in holding back on spending, and Texas is one of the very few states that is not experience a financial crisis and melt down.
Thanks,
Paul Couch
Tyler, Texas
Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison
I think it’s time that we get a new faces in Austin. Rick is an alright but I think new blood is good. Rick is not a very good people person so I think Senator Hutchison has tried to help Texas and the Texas Border more than Rick has. He rarely ever mentions the Border stricken Violence. We need new faces in our State Government, too many back room talks are being discussed between friends and those who contribute to the Campaigns. A lot of arm twisting exists between lobbyist and Legislators. I believe the lobbyist have too much influence on our Legislators as to how laws are voted on and passed. Some of our Senators do what they are told by those who influence them the most and those who contributed to the campaigns. We need term limits not Life time memberships in Austin. Many of Legislators ask the lobbyist to help their families and promises to help pass their bill before them.
new blood?
New blood most certainly would not include conservative-lite, Kay Bailey Hutchison.
Hutchison Run for the Gold
This lady only pretends to be a conservative Republican. She is pro-amnesty for illegal aliens. She voted for the bail-outs. Gov. Perry is not much better since he too, is a tax and spend kind of guy and loves the idea of amnesty for illegal aliens. I sure won't vote for Mrs. H, and I don't wish to hold my nose and vote again for Perry. So, any actual conservative republicans out there?
Kay "Bailout" Hutchison
Putting Kay "Bailout" Hutchison and Gov. Perry in the same sentence is a disgrace to conservatives everywhere! Texas finds itself with a budget surplus because of Gov. Perry....KBH helped Washington, DC go on a spending spree. I will gladly vote for Gov. Perry again. Texas is the #1 place to do business and in better shape than the other 49 states! If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
The next governor's race
Neither Perry or Hutchinson is a qualified candidate. I will be looking for a new face. Hutchinson sold us out on the bailout of the financial industry. Perry just needs to retire.
If no other qualified republicans run, then it is time to look at a new third party or the democratic (heaven forbid)
candidate.
Perry Retire?
The state of Texas is one of the very few states that is not in total fiscal melt down from over-spending.
It has not been our legislature, as a whole, that has been prudent in this regard.
Rick Perry has shown the leadership necessary to restrain spending, and he will continue to do so. He takes a strong stand when it has been necessary to restrain our legislature.
Let's keep Perry in office.
Thanks,
Independent
Hutchison a Crook?
It is only because of a technicality that KBH escaped by the skin of her teeth getting convicted for using the State Treasurer's office for illegal money raising purposes.
This is not an inconsequential crime. The State of Texas had good reasons for passing laws against corruption like this. If we are to live down our State'e reputation for corruption, then we must not reward KBH with the Governor's office.
Who knows for what corruptive purposes she will use this office? Most likely to bring in her fatcat Republican special interests to feed off Texas' wealth.
KBH outright stinks on the issue of illegal immigration. She was the author of the Hutchison-Pence illegal alien amnesty bill, which thankfully failed, and her local office in Austin has been slamming the door in the face of representatives of the Immigration Reform Coalition of Texas.
We cannot get her to use her influence to institute ICE worksite raids in Austin, where illegal alien job thieves are stealing constructin jobs by the thousands.
The GOP has never had a good reputation for being on the side of the working man, and if they are to make any kind of comeback after the last two electoral disasters, they would do well to put forth better candidates than KBH. She had better hope her opponents don't play on this issue.
And Rick Perry should crawl away forever. He is the one who has brought us the Toll Roads!
