Where Your Education Money Goes

Teachers in north Texas are spending tax dollars for retreats at the Gaylord Texan resort and convention center in nearby Grapevine. They'll be staying at the expensive convention complex, hearing from motivational speakers, and blowing a big wad of cash intended to raise test scores.

Rooms at the Gaylord go for $200 a night. One bureaucratic bozo told the Fort Worth Star Telegram that this gives employees a chance to "meet away from the school."

Another set of teachers had their spend-the-night retreat at their local Marriott near Texas Motor Speedway. The principal reported that the "teachers seemed inspired." Oh, goody.

With all the administration buildings, sports stadiums, complexes and performing arts centers, one wonders why these bureaucratic pep rallies cannot be held on district-owned property. Probably couldn't waste enough money if they diud that.

Education money

I would like to know what school districts these teachers are from. My daughter teaches in Decatur, she has to pay for classroom items out of her own pocket all the time. When I was teaching years ago, all supplies were paid for by the school. We buy additional reading books for her 1st graders so she can build up a decent library in her room. The teachers would much rather have a fund to buy supplies than go on a fancy outing. Glee Huebner

Teacher Spending

Unfortunately, I know an Administrator of a GED program in Jasper, Texas, that does nothing except buy stuff off of the internet(for her home). Hides under her desk if teachers come to see her. Would come to the office 1-2 days a month if that much for the 15 years I worked there. And had the audacity to tell me she is part-time, with full-time benefits, in which I asked her if I would be able to atain her job some day, for the same privileges. And, when I told the other Director, that I wished to have the Administrators job, she asked me why. Of course I said, so I could show up to work maybe 3 times a month and receive, health insurance, travel pay (to visit her Husband, that used to work in Lufkin), bonus pay checks for I don't know what, in which, the other Director flatly stated, but she is really supposed to work Mon - Fri, 8am - 5pm. I almost fainted.
But then I realized, why this Director, allowed this to continue. All she ever did was her Church work at the job and babysit her grandchild. If you were to look at her computer in the school, you would see, she only has church work on there. As a matter of fact, I told them both I was not answering the phone in the afternoon anymore, as all the calls were from her Church. This was remedied, by the Administrator, giving her, her own phone line from the school to the Church. Then there was the time the Director, gave herself a big fat $2,000 bonus to help an elderly gentleman learn to read. This lasted one whole hour. Need more info, I have lots of it, when it comes to Administrators and Directors, that are never at work, and when they are there, are not there at all. And, I have the calendars to prove it, (about 15 years worth).
Many letters were written to Region 5 regarding this, but when you have a personnel director, that only travels, this way when he has a dental appointment, so his gas can be paid for, and gets a stipend, for his out of town trip, and the Director over the Director, only shows up, when he has a golf game, for the same privilege (these people are at Region 5). You know darn well the letters (and there have been at least 13 letters sent to Region 5) regarding these two women, have been shoved under a table somewhere.
That is not all, funds that should be spent in Vidor, were hardly ever spent for them, they were used for the Directors purposes (whatever they were). Then the article I just read does not surprise me at all. Want to know more email me.

Great Society

This is a very familiar situation that I was involved with back in 1967. Our school district recieved oodles of money for just such lame brained ideas such as this.
We were all treated to a weekend of luxury 50 miles away. No one learned a thing. We were expected to enjoy ourselves. The money had to be used up!!!
What came of this, is that the school secretary resigned her position, taking a lucrative job as the aide for a new teaching experiment that would raise the expectations for 6 at risk students.
Their new classroom was a closet.
At year's end..........these children had not progressed one iota.
Thank your Lyndon B. Johnson ................

Houston ISD

How about this.............their new superindendent was fired here in Corpus Christ for using the district for his personal bank account...........goes up to Houston, gets hired and is now receiving nearly a half a million salary;

Guess he doesn't have to put his fingers in the till any more............

IS THIS A GRAT COUNTRY OR WHAT?
