Looks like another Democrat statewide hopeful is following Bill White’s lead in avoiding President Obama’s Texas trip. The latest is Jeff Weems, a candidate for the Texas Railroad Commission. What makes his silence ironic is that Weems has been an enthusiastic supporter of Obama… until seeking office himself, apparently.
An attorney who has represented the likes of BP and Enron, Mr. Weems is a strictly partisan Democrat. This week he is apparently trading in his donkey for a turtle shell: doing a Bill White “duck and cover” in advance of Mr. Obama’s visit.
Which is pretty funny, given his fanboy-like adoration for the Obama Team. According to Republican David Porter’s campaign, Mr. Weems exceeded the federal contribution limit in supporting Obama back in 2008; that forced the Obama campaign to issue a refund.
But now that the wildly unpopular president is visiting Texas, Weems has done the Bill White duck-and-cover. A regular poster to Facebook and Twitter, Mr. Weems isn’t mentioning the Obama trip. Probably smart, given that the Obama Administration has all but declared war on the state’s oil and gas industry.
Mr. Weems can hide from Obama all he wants when the president visits on Monday, but it’s clear that he is firmly in the administration’s camp when it comes to their plans to decimate Texas economy.
