Palmer ISD Embraces Transparency

Palmer ISD, located south of Dallas, is putting their check register online for all to see. Superintendent Alan Oakley told me that “it only makes sense” for taxpayers to see how their dollars are being spent. He said that since the technology exists, taxpayers should be able to follow their money. We need more superintendents in Texas like Alan Oakley!

Mr. Oakley said he and the school board want their taxpayers to be confident that dollars are being spent wisely, even if it means having to answer more questions. “It is their money.”

In a press release, Mr. Oakley noted that posting the check register is part of their “commitment” to “complete financial accountability.”

If Palmer ISD can do it, then every school district can. Mr. Oakley and the school board are to be commended for taking a strong step in the right direction.
