An Agency Out Of Control

It’s hard to believe just how out-of-control the federal “International Boundary and Water Commission” is, if whistle-blower accounts and media reports are to believed. It’s apparent the commission had very little oversight and too much power.

A Texas Observer article today points to one tiny point that makes the much larger case for problems: “The Commissioner is even allowed to set his own salary.”

The U.S. State Department has in the past noted that the commission is: “simply too small, too isolated, and too vulnerable to management abuse to continue without the protection and oversight of a major government department.”

It’s time for Congress to do it’s job and make sure this entity is properly reformed.
